This walk starts at the beautiful viewpoint of St Marthas Church and heads south down the North Downs Escarpment to Blackheath and climbs back up along the North Downs Way National Trail back to the church. You will learn about the formation of the landscape of Southeast England, as well as what early man discovered here.

Any travel advice: Park in the Car Park on Halfpenny Lane, approached either via Guildford to the North of from Chilworth to the south.

Description of walk: This walk starts from the fantastic viewpoint of St Martha’s Hill and descends south to valley of the The River Tillingbourne to the village of Blackheath.The walk also takes in the viewing platform over Albury Village and returns to St Martha’s along the Pilgrims Way.
The Pilgrims' Way is an ancient track between Winchester and Canterbury. It is an historic pilgrimage route to Canterbury Cathedral in Kent, home of the shrine of the martyred archbishop, St Thomas Becket. For much of its length it is coincident with the North Downs Way and joins it at St Martha’s Hill.
Specific walk / conditions details: There are a few stiles on the route and there is a section of road, but most of the walk is off road. There is steady climb on the way back to the summit of St Martha’s. Stout footwear is recommended with clothing appropriate for the weather, as well as some water and a snack.
Dogs allowed / not allowed?: Due to the length of the walk it is not suitable for dogs.
